ON Roja(1992)-Tamil movie review


This movie is inspired from Italian movie Desica's Girasoli, I (1970),neverthless no complaints because i don't believe in originality.The movie is worth watching because of good story and flow of the story.A.R.Rehmans score and Santhosh Siva's(artistic lineage person with solid confident work) camera is beautiful.The movie has romance and patriotism.Good natural performance by the acting team also. Maniratnam was in great form during this period,he gave continuous hits of Mouna Ragam,Nayagan,Agni Natchathiram,Geethanjali,Anjali,Thalapathi. There were many cute scenes in the movie.It is also visually stunning. Even Vittoria Desica might have been happy watching this movie because such a solid,positive enhancement of his work.

 Despite the story had potential for History/Patriotism(released on 1992 Independence day?) genre the director made into a Romance genre and heroine oriented story, the unusual contradictory theme worked well. The cliche of tamil movie story telling is naturally broken by the director, which is a considerable achievement. Writer Sujatha contribution to story is commendable, the computer scientist working for the Indian government's military department, terminologies like encode and decode used in dailagues certainly gives good standard in tamil story, which is of rich and qualiy material. Eventhough the common notion of this story inspiring from Indian mythology Sathyavan Savithri, the characterisation of heroine is good. The graph of simple, innocent to serious bold wife transformation is good in heroine character. Arvind Swamy-the protoganist is super cool in the movie. Directors casting talent is solid which itself takes care of acting and convincing audience with suspension of disbelief. The popularity of this movie is a positive sign for a decent cinema, as i used to see this movie on Train stations Even though the music looks simple(A.R.Rahman's first or second movie, ad video music experience influence), it is fresh and new.Ive special memory on this movie as i first self learned difference between director and producer. This movie is supposed to be the first of terrorism trilogy, in a way its breaking of parallel/documentary cinema into mainstream. The film is beautiful, unique, poetic(without loud sound and sense of forcing) touch is directors achievement which is hard to make it happen again.

I got into this after tough day in my work and selected this as somewhere I saw some raving review in my facebook feed somewhere in my mobile. Irony that movie which downplays the mobile device got attention by mobile. It's very hard and unfair to write review on culture and language that am not into it. But first time ever I went really went tight on capturing images and reading sub titles due to the natural visual, realistic characters. when the movie started telling about a director and writers block, i thought it's going to be too artistic and would loose empathy as like the movies 71/2(french), marupadiyum, bommalatam, VTV. I don't like movies about movies, I was sleepy until the part came in about the guy who ran a video cassette shop who gone out of competition now. This is ON JK who lived during -Jiddu Krishnamurti- May 12, 1895 – February 17, 1986 ).He is many's spiritual guru and had not sharing about him to anyone as there are certain beauties which we cant share and also philosophy is a dry subject,where people wont like it. ON Tamil Writer Balakumaran - The man who knew too much on spirituality

  This write-up on writer Balakumar, veteran of tamil fiction credited to have 200 plus book titles. Balakumaran writing got into me when i watched the Tamil movie Gentleman(1993) as a kid. Even though dialogue is small part of movie, managed to take away his name in the movie titles which we hardly care to see. Then i managed to see some of his works in movie and always been great fan like for a hero in the movie. Later i used to see his name was always there in tamil novel section in book shops which i often used to visit. I turned pages there and got into his novel writing a bit.
