hey Ram(Feb18-2000) - A retro

The films major instance Direct Action Day (16 August 1946-announced by the Muslim League Council to show the strength of Muslim feelings both to British and Congress, sort of a bandh) event shown in moview is a good effort to depict the killing of around 4000 people on that day(the overall killing happened due to partition riots is estimated to be 2lakh approximately(could be even between 2 Lakh to 20 Lakh and stands next to holocaust which cost around 1 crore lives app)) is an shocking information to know for political outsiders like me to understand what India has gone through as a nation. The amount of research gone into this movie is evident(definitely that which is not included might even be more valuable).

 Even though this movie is a historical fiction, doesnt mean its only for old timers and history buffs. Infact not training the mind to take this sort of movie was one of the reason the film might have failed to reach its deserved acclaim(but indeed was invested 9 crore and returned 11.3 crores-recently been Tweeted by KH for its 16th anniversary). This movie (and indeed sagara sangamam) deserved an oscar which didnt attain(ofourse oscars are very american not international indeed). Ths story and direction (visuals + dailagues (a fine punch "The poor child has not even decided about her god and the ones about vegetarian food and cyber canal-drama at its best.")) was one of the flawless and prolific effort in Indian films. KH's influence of European and Malayalam movies is the curse and blessing of this movie(and ofcourse his acute sens of drama and eccentric casting where SRK gives his best, a humble man indeed). The silence, pause, slowness indeed is part of the realism which acts as part of the realism and cant be writen off. Historical fiction is the best genre because we need not take care of the theme and sense as the history intertwined in the story takes care of itself(this theme been before in Mani Ratnams Bombay and Salman Rushdie's midnight children).

Many characters were even based on true story like Mortimer Wheeler, Gandhi(Gandhi sleeping with lights ON told in the movie is interesting to know about his eccentricity indeed proves the depth of research done on Gandhi(and his writing volume is 65000+ papers is an suprise info i heard recently)) etc. The only downside is the language which has many essence and consistency lost in translation, where i captured some of them below.

I got into this after tough day in my work and selected this as somewhere I saw some raving review in my facebook feed somewhere in my mobile. Irony that movie which downplays the mobile device got attention by mobile. It's very hard and unfair to write review on culture and language that am not into it. But first time ever I went really went tight on capturing images and reading sub titles due to the natural visual, realistic characters. when the movie started telling about a director and writers block, i thought it's going to be too artistic and would loose empathy as like the movies 71/2(french), marupadiyum, bommalatam, VTV. I don't like movies about movies, I was sleepy until the part came in about the guy who ran a video cassette shop who gone out of competition now. ON Tamil Writer Balakumaran - The man who knew too much on spirituality

  This write-up on writer Balakumar, veteran of tamil fiction credited to have 200 plus book titles. Balakumaran writing got into me when i watched the Tamil movie Gentleman(1993) as a kid. Even though dialogue is small part of movie, managed to take away his name in the movie titles which we hardly care to see.
